Can you provide some more information? Did you get any of the steps to run? Like load core tables? If you look at your database in phpmyadmin are any tables created? Which ones?
I just ran installSQL on my local system and it completed so we need to know where you are stalling out.
Also, what MYSQL version and what PHP version are you running? |

Googling a bit, you might try creating the database with the latin1 character set. It appears that using utf8 might be causing problems with the key length.
Give that a try.
This is not a definitive answer, just something to try. |

I duplicated your problem after creating a database with the UTF8 character set. To solve the immediate problem create your database with one of the Latin character sets.
We'll have to look into the key length issue and UTF8 as a separate issue. |

Probably a silly question, but, as I am having the same problem, how do I create the db with a Latin character set and will it still be in English?
Thanks _________________

Never mid. I didn't know I could change the language of the db at will.
So far so good on installation. _________________
